Isometric has issued the first Direct Air Capture (DAC) certificates generated in North America to Deep Sky. They will be delivered to Microsoft and Royal Bank of Canada (RBC), marking the start of deliveries under a 10,000-tonne offtake agreement running through to 2034.
Located in Innisfail, Alberta, Deep Sky Alpha is the world's first cross-technology DAC project and began operations in August 2025. It operates multiple capture technologies side by side at a single site, with technology partners including Airbus, Phlair and GE Vernova. Powered by renewable energy, the project injects the carbon dioxide it removes from the atmosphere deep underground, where it remains stored for more than a thousand years.
These certificates were issued under version 1.1 of Isometric's Direct Air Capture Protocol, which requires all project emissions to be accounted for when calculating net carbon removal, and long-term monitoring to ensure safe and permanent storage. It is the only Direct Air Capture Protocol to be approved by the Integrity Council for the Voluntary Carbon Market (ICVCM) to carry the Core Carbon Principles (CCP) label, making these the world's first CCP-labeled DAC certificates.
Certify, Isometric's agentic certification platform, powered this issuance. Its AI agents cross-check data points, from sensor readings to satellite data, flagging the cases that need an independent verifier's judgment. The result is faster, more accurate certification. The underlying data and calculations behind each certificate are publicly available on the Isometric Registry.
"From day one, we've believed that leadership in direct air capture would be earned through execution," said Alex Petre, CEO of Deep Sky. "We've been transparent about the steps required to build this industry and have shared our progress every step of the way - from breaking ground at Deep Sky Alpha to operating multiple distinct DAC technologies, to permanently storing carbon underground. Today, we're adding another proof point before ongoing commercial operations: North America's first certified DAC carbon removal credits. This has always been our approach: build, prove, deliver, and now we will scale."
This is an important step for DAC in North America, delivering its first certified removals. The next step is scale.
