Pacific Biochar, one of the world’s leading carbon dioxide removal (CDR) suppliers, has partnered with Isometric to issue trusted, high-quality biochar credits. This partnership includes Pacific Biochar’s flagship Humboldt Sawmill project—which has the capacity to remove over 10,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere each year.

Under the agreement, Isometric will oversee monitoring, reporting and verification (MRV) activities and issue carbon removal credits in accordance with the Isometric Standard and Isometric’s scientifically rigorous Biochar Production and Storage Protocol.

Josiah Hunt, CEO of Pacific Carbon, said:

At Pacific Biochar, our mission is to mitigate climate change while leaving a legacy of fertile soil. We’re a bit impatient about it too. Isometric is well staffed, well organized, and laser-focused on scientific rigor, data transparency, and an ability to deliver results quickly - which is a pretty astute measure of what’s needed right now in the registry and MRV space.  We’re excited to be working together to scale high-quality carbon removal.

Pacific Biochar’s model involves modifying existing infrastructure—such as sawmills and biomass power plants—to produce biochar from waste materials and forestry residuals. The resulting biochar is primarily applied to agricultural land in their regions of production, where it can improve crop yields, water conservation and fertilizer efficiency.

We’re pleased to support Pacific Biochar as we work to scale carbon removal—responsibly and fast.
