Vaulted Deep selects Isometric for Microsoft offtake agreement

4.9 million tonnes of carbon removal over 12 years

Chief Commercial Officer

Vaulted Deep has selected Isometric as the registry for its milestone 12-year carbon dioxide removal (CDR) offtake with Microsoft. Announced today, the offtake will deliver up to 4.9 million tonnes of carbon removal through to 2038.

This is a significant agreement for the durable carbon removal sector, demonstrating the continued demand for high-quality, scientifically rigorous CDR.

Vaulted will leverage their waste management infrastructure to remove carbon at megatonne scale. All credits will be issued in accordance with Isometric’s Biomass Geological Storage Protocol—the most scientifically rigorous on the market. All measurement, reporting, and verification (MRV) data will be tracked and managed through Isometric Certify.

Vaulted permanently stores organic waste that can’t be reused—such as biosolids, paper sludge, and agricultural residues—deep underground in geological formations. This safely stores the carbon contained in that waste for over 1,000 years. The company sources this waste in partnership with municipalities, as well as industrial and agricultural businesses, offering a sustainable alternative to landfill or incineration.

Isometric has worked with Vaulted since 2023 and has issued more than 18,000 credits to date for carbon removal activities at its Great Plains Organic Waste Sequestration project in Hutchinson, Kansas.

High-quality credits—backed by science, transparency, and robust MRV—are essential to scaling carbon removal responsibly and fast. This offtake marks another important step toward that goal.
